Abstract: This study compared resistance training, aerobic training and muscular endurance training, on functional autonomy and quality of
life of the elderly. The present study encompassed 133 participants, divided into four groups, who performed 16 weeks of resistance
training, aerobic training and muscular endurance training, in addition to the control group that did not perform any practice.
The GDLAM protocol was used to assess functional autonomy, and the WHOQOL-OLD questionnaire was used to assess the quality
of life. After analysing the results, it was found that despite the positive effects for all experimental groups, the resistance training
group was more efficient in reducing the time to perform functional autonomy tests (∆% -22.5876, p< 0.0001). Regarding the quality
of life, the same group presented a significant difference for domain 6, which deals with intimacy, raising the overall quality of life of
individuals (∆% 11.96531, p< 0.0001). It was concluded that resistance training showed a higher rate of improvement in functional
autonomy and quality of life of the elderly. However, it would be imprudent to rule out the positive effects provided by the other
training analysed. In this sense, the findings of this study reinforce the regular and oriented practice of physical exercises of different
types for the elderly, being an important and decisive tool in the maintenance and improvement of multiple health variables

Abstract: Purpose: The effects of radioactivity on human health have been debated for many
years but there are still important gaps that need to be addressed especially related to the
effects of high natural background radiation on the local population. The beach of
Meaípe, in the city of Guarapari (Brazil), emits natural gamma radiation due to the
presence of monazite sands. We aimed to investigate the effects of gamma radiation
doses on the biological system of wistar rats using a physical simulator of gamma
radiation designed using Meaípe monazite sands. Methods: Female Wistar rats were
divided into three groups, submitted to no radiation (control group) and to continuous
radiation levels, one of very high level (20 μSv h-1) and another of high level (3.6 μSv h1
). The three group of animals were monitored weekly for 3 months and at the end of
the study the animals were sacrificed, and the organs were extracted and weighed for
anthropometric, oxidative stress and histological evaluations. Results: Exposure to
radiation released by the monazite sands did not cause anthropometric alterations or
blood pressure change in the animals. Similarly, there was no change in the
quantification of ovarian follicles between the radiation groups and the control group. There was no difference in the oxidative stress quantification by the thiobarbituric acid
reactive substance and advanced oxidation protein product methods in the ovaries.
There were no evidenced damages in the structure of the renal tissue. It was observed
the presence of granulomas in the hepatic tissue and alterations in the nuclei of the
hepatocytes. Conclusions: Our results suggest that the continuous exposure of females
rats to 3.6 and 20 μSv h-1 doses of gamma radiation slightly affected the hepatic tissue,
but did not alter the histological parameters in the kidneys and ovaries and oxidative
stress.

Abstract: Tributyltin chloride (TBT)is an organometallic pollutant thatis used as a biocide in antifouling paints. TBT
induces several toxic and endocrine-disrupting effects. However, studies evaluating the effects of TBT on
renal function are rare. This study demonstrates that TBT exposure is responsible for improper renal
function as well as the development of abnormal morphophysiology in mammalian kidneys. Female rats
were treated with TBT, and their renal morphophysiology was assessed. Morphophysiological abnormalities such as decreased glomerular filtration rate and increased proteinuria levels were
observed in TBT rats. In addition, increases in inflammation, collagen deposition and a-smooth muscle
actin (a-SMA) protein expression were observed in TBT kidneys. A disrupted cellular redox balance and
apoptosis in kidney tissue were also observed in TBT rats. TBT rats demonstrated reduced serum estrogen
levels and estrogen receptor-a (ERa) protein expression in renal cortex. Together, these data provide in
vivo evidence that TBT is toxic to normal renal function and that these effects may be associated with
renal histopathology complications, such as inflammation and fibrosis.

Abstract: Objectives: to characterize the eating patterns of infants discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Intermediate Unit in the first six months of life. Methods: study carried out in a risk maternity located in the city of Sergipe. Data were collected from hospital discharge summaries and from interviews with caregivers during outpatient visits. Results: the sample consisted of 85 infants. Exclusive breastfeeding prevailed 45(52.33%), followed by mixed breastfeeding 30(34.88%) and isolated infant formula 11(12.79%). At six months, 25(29.41%) of the children received exclusive breastfeeding, 23(26.83%) had started the introduction of food and 24 (28%) the incorporation of farinaceous foods in the dietary pattern. Conclusions: there was a predominance of infant and farinaceous formulas before the sixth month in children.; Objetivos: caracterizar los patrones alimentarios de los lactantes egresados de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales y Unidad Intermedia en los primeros seis meses de vida. Métodos: estudio realizado en una maternidad de riesgo ubicada en la ciudad de Sergipe. Los datos se recogieron de los resúmenes de alta hospitalaria y de las entrevistas realizadas con los cuidadores durante las consultas externas.
